Notes on
Gold mixtures - Plating - and "Gold or Silver Tone".
Pure gold is 24K - although pure gold
is very soft - bends & scars easily.
Also EXTREMELY expensive! A 14K piece is 14 parts pure gold in 24
parts total alloy.
10K is 10 parts pure gold in 24 parts total alloy.
The type of metals the gold is melted with determines the tone or color of a
piece.
Plating ( Gold, Silver, Nickel, etc. ) is an
electro-chemical process that creates a very thin
coating of pure gold ( or other metals ) to adhere to a 'prepared' piece of
metal.
"Gold Tone" and "Silver Tone"... is... well... essentially
- gold or silver toned paint.
