In the beginning was the
word - er - dictionary... First printed - November 1998.
The culmination of nearly 3 years work.
Then Lyle learned how to create a website... and one thing led to another.
Up to November, 2003 - the dictionary underwent numerous additions, revisions,
and printings.
( 02/08/07 - The LBBD has undergone a complete and major revision. Now contains over 2200 words. )
Over 300,000 copies of the 'LBBD' have been distributed since 1998.

The
Little Big Book Dictionary |
In late 1999, while browsing recovery websites, Lyle signed up
to the newsletter for a nice little site that had a few pins, shirts, mugs, and
medallions for sale. It also had an automated 'Daily Reflections' reading.
When the first newsletter was received - then owner, Ken M. announced that he
had "too many irons in the fire" and decided to sell 'The Recovery Emporium'
website.
In short - we bought it. Then one thing led to another.
Oh did it ever...

Recovery Emporium |
So what about us. We're just Lyle and Theresa - two
"garden variety" fellowship members.
SD's... Theresa - 4/19/95
Lyle - 2/8/83
Since taking over The Recovery Emporium site - there have been well over
200
products added to the site and extensive additions to various articles and
information. The site had around 30 pages total when we took it over - it
now has over 300 pages and over 1,000 photos. We have progressed from
around 10 orders a week in January of 2000 to presently handling an average of
60 to 120 orders daily - and the numbers are steadily increasing. In fact,
since 2003 our growth rate has been an absolutely incredible 94% annual average.
So we're doing this 'thing' and apparently doing it fairly well - and
we'll see what we see when we see it...
One Day At A Time.
Here's a few photo's of 'our neck of the woods'.

Chessie Cat - The Boss! - and one very spoiled rotten cat.
Found abandoned as a kitten along railroad tracks in a remote area. Quite
a story.
Now 14 years old - very demanding - talks to us as if we knew what she was
saying.
It's usually something like feed me, pet me, brush me, sit on the porch with me
- me, me, me...
Sugar. Lost one eye and suffered broken front leg when her original owner
( our friend Frannie ) lost her
home and a number of other pets during a 'freak flood' a few years ago. We
helped by caring for Sugar while
she recovered - and of course - she took to us and we to her. Later -
Frannie allowed us to adopt her.
She's a real love bug!
---
In memory of 'Bunny Butt' - our baby cat. Almost 2 years old when hit by a
car and killed instantly.
6/27/08 We so miss her. :-(
---
In early October of 2006 we moved to our
new building. Finally!
( 3/15/08 - Even it has changed considerably since moving in. )
( Photos taken 10/17/06 ) We had been working out of an area of around 280 sq. feet.
Now it's 960 square feet. We can stop bumping into one another!

Parkersburg, West Virginia ( Middle - Star )
Southwest of Pittsburgh PA - About 3 hours drive Southeast of Columbus, OH
85 Miles North of Charleston WV on I-77
Picture taking happens - here and who knows where...
A bunch of lights - mirrors - a few secret recipes and often - pure luck...
- - -
As long as the packages aren't too dirty :-) - Theresa will
allow for something to be placed in the back of her '81 El Camino.
( Well - actually - NOT ! - this thing rarely leaves the garage. )

Little 267 cu. in. V8 and dressed to kill.
Theresa totaled one of these while drinking.
Now with over 13 years of sobriety - it has been 'recovered' too.

About twice a year ( May and September ) we drive 10 hours to the Kitty Hawk
area of The Outer Banks ( OBX )
of North Carolina for a weeks vacation at the beach.
We spend most of our time hunting "Sea Glass" or "Beach Glass'.
During our September visit of 2004, we hit the 'mother load'. We found
more pieces of glass in one week than we had in all the 10 years of visits
before. In fact, we threw more back in as 'not ready yet' than we usually
found in a week's visit. Hunting beach glass becomes 'addictive' very
fast. Imagine that :-) It's essentially purposeless and
valueless - although some 'rare' colors can be sold to collectors or jewelry
makers. At present - we estimate we have over 3,000 pieces of beach
glass.
A few are very rare - a many are very unusual.
A 'done' piece of beach glass will be completely smooth -
both sides. No slick or shiny spots.
Man-made beach glass is too smooth. Doesn't have the same 'roughness' as
real beach glass.
Artificially made in rock tumblers with a fine grinding material. Real
sand takes much more time and creates
a more rough to the touch and very noticeable difference.
Usually - if it's in some bin in some shop, it's not likely to be real beach
glass.
May - 2005
After 10 years of seeking - we finally found a RED. Means nothing to most - though for a beach glass hunter, it's a small miracle.
Red beach glass is extremely rare. And
that's perhaps an understatement!
